Very cool. Italian chic! Plus, l read today that they're planning a 150bhp, 1.4 turbo engined version. As autocar said, who'd buy a cooper now?

l am not the world is biggest fan of these recent 'retro' cars, but I've anticipated this car since the concept car from a few years ago.

l have to say that is is perhaps the best recreation of recent times. The new Beetle was a dressed-up Golf with a price-tag, & the Mini, while a decent enough car, is massive, pricey, & German. Oh, & did l mention the estate agent thing?

The new Fiat has clearly grown a bit, but does not appear to lose any of the cute styling of the old model, & of course, Fiat churns out some great small cars, so u can safely guess that this car is going to be more than an overpriced fashion statement. £8k for an entry-level 1.2 might not be budget car terretory, but it is entry-level Fiesta pricing.

The new 500 itself is based on the Panda, & if that is anythng to go by, it should be cracking to drive too.

Better still, they're planning to offer a version with the Panda 100HP engine.

Perhaps another thing making the 500 more appealing to me is perhaps that I've got a soft-spot for small Fiats. Although l grew up in the '90s, l remember an old Uno my dad used to own as a runabout fondly, while the CInquecento Sporting was the Mini Cooper of the time. l even remember tuning a classic 500 on Gran Turismo on my Playstation, getting a somwhat ambitious 140BHP out of the little engine. I've simply grown up with Fiat more than l have with Beetlss or even Minis

Should be a cracking little car come January, when we (finally) get it. Clearly the biggest test is whether it can make the same impact the new Mini has made on the new car market.
