l called the AA out to start my car (crankshaft sensor went!) when the guy finished the bonet wouldnt drop closed. The lever under the drivers side is really floppy now and the bloody thing wont close. Sure l know its the wires or something that hve snapped but im worried as someone could just cut the wire he used to tie it down and take anything out of the car. we tried pushing it down whilst fiddling with the lever etc. does anyone have any tips firstly!? and secondly, how much will this cost to get fixed, parts and labour? l am pregnant and really dont wanna spend hundreds what with the replacement crankshaft sensor too! thanks! (the car will be sold asap after its fixed!) Trust me t thing is going as soon as its in asaleable condition. with a new baby l really dont think l can afford to lose any potential money!!

l disagree l work for FIat & Alfa Romeo, the newer models of these cars r reliable, the older models gave the brand a bad name. Depending on how much damage was done depends on what u will have to replace. Otherwise all they will need to do is bolt on a new catch. That would not cost a lot at all & it is not a big job so there is not much labour involved. But l suggest yu take it to the dealer workshop ask them to check it out & give u a quote.

If the bonnet wo not close & the release knob is loose, it is just a seized cable: Try a good squirt of WD40 on the catch above the grille. You should be able to see the cable - follow it to the catch & lever the latch closed. Once the WD has worked it is magic, it should be OK.

Telling us which Fiat u r referring to would be a great help. l will assume u mean Punto though as they r pretty common.
If the bonnet wo not shut once it is been open I'd hazard a guess that the catch is staying in the open position. Some lubricant, for example WD40 or AC90 may solve this if u sprayed it onto the latch that holds the bonnet shut.
Parts & labour r pretty hard to estimate without knowing which model u refer to & exactly what needs replacing. Parts from dealers r generally overpriced & u may be able to get cheaper parts from a local motor factors, scrapyard or ebay. Labour depends on the amount of work involved & the garage.
You might like to try a search on puntosports.co.uk or fiatforum.com for more info.
