Any information would help. It is a 1982 convertible with 67,000 original miles and l was told that it is in great condition. I've see the pictures of it and it is beautiful. l just do not know much about Fiats and was wondering if they had major issues.

Angel,

l am not familiar with an '82 Fiat Roadster, is it perhaps an 1800 Spyder?

In general, the Fiats I've owned ('72 850 Spyder & '60 600 Sedan), the biggest problems have been rust on the under carriage & floor boards. Fiat has this undercoating they put on the frames & floor boards. After a few years it cracks & holds dirt & water. Voila, rust.

Other than that, Fiat makes a dependable little car. They do require regular maintenance (oil, filter, lube, wheel bearing greasing, tune ups, etc.) & their convertible tops tend to leak.

If u r a hands-on girl, it might be a good choice for you. Make sure u look at the underside of the car for rust & fresh oil leaks. Have someone start it when the engine is cold & rev it a little. Watch the exhaust for blue/white smoke (valve seals may be worn) coming out of the exhaust. Do this again when the engine is warm. Also remove the oil filler cap when the engine is warm & running (use a rag to not burn yourself), there should be very little smoke coming out of the filler opening (smoke can indicate worn piston rings). If it does not pass these tests, it could mean a major engine overhaul in the near future. Fiat parts r still available but pricey.

When u keep the maintenance up, they r fun cars.

l drive an '82 Fiat 124 Spyder everyday, have for years. They can be a problem if allowed to sit. Find a good mechanic & enjoy.
